Original timeline: Ray tried to free his friend from the NSA, but the agents shot him before he could. Soon, the situation drew the attention of the NSA, who wanted to capture Gumball to study him. Ray took Gumball home, fed him candy and watched movies with him. He befriended the alien and named it Gumball. In 1988, Ray had come across a time-displaced baby Dominator alien as he was hiding away from some bullies. Ray and Sydney often fought over which video games to play as Sydney liked playing Tecmo Bowl while Ray preferred Legend of Zelda. He was inspired to become an engineer and inventor after watching Star Wars as a child. Ray had a lonely childhood, though he got through it by immersing himself in Arthurian lore, fancying himself as " Sir Galahad" and naming his personal playground in the woods after the legendary Camelot.
Ray was born in 1981 to David and Sandy Palmer in Ivy Town and had an older brother, Sydney. 1.1.12 Losing Nate and relationship with Nora.1.1.8.10 Defeating the Time Masters and Vandal Savage.Gathering their old friends, Ray and the former Legends went on a daring rescue mission to save Mona Wu and Mick Rory and Kayla's children from the Necrians. Ray will soon be a father, as Nora is pregnant. Before leaving the city, Ray promised to create a foundation in honor of Chester's father. Ray went to Central City for the Technology Convention, where he met a member of Team Flash and his fan, Chester P. After getting married, Ray and Nora chose to leave the Legends and focus on Nora's job as a Fairy Godmother. Post-Crisis, Ray helped the Legends fight the Encores such as Damien Darhk, who gave his blessing for Ray to marry Nora. Ray was possessed by a powerful demon, Neron, after accidentally interfering in Nora Darhk and John Constantine's efforts to subdue the demon until Neron killed Nate (voiding the deal he made: sparing Nate in exchange for control of his body), allowing John to kill Neron and grant Ray his body back. He is later knighted Sir Raymond of the Palms, Defender of Camelot by Queen Guinevere in 507. After getting a new source of dwarf star alloy, Ray went back to his Atom identity. He nicknamed himself Colonel Cold, using both Leonard Snart's weaponry and goggles. suit was destroyed during a mission in Feudal Japan, Mick Rory gave him the Cold gun. In early 2016, Ray was recruited by time traveler Rip Hunter into the Legends on a mission to take down Vandal Savage. However, thanks to the efforts of Team Arrow, Ray was rescued and would continue to aid them in their fight against Darhk. After six months, during which time the city was renamed "Star City" in his honor, Ray managed to contact Felicity but was captured by Damien Darhk and H.I.V.E. While testing out a new function of his exosuit, Ray accidentally caused an explosion which shrunk him to a miniature size stuck in this state and unable to call for help, he was presumed dead. Having designed a powerful exosuit, Ray began acting as a vigilante in Starling City, calling himself The Atom.
Ray was also the fiancé of Anna Loring until her death at the hands of a Mirakuru soldier. Ray is the husband of Nora Darhk, the ex-fiancé of Kendra Saunders, and the ex-boyfriend/friend of Felicity Smoak. He is the son of David and Sandy Palmer and younger brother of Sydney Palmer, who in at least one version of the future is considered to be the father of the robotics industry.
